Walks in Somerset

A large selection of walk books and pamphlets detailing walks in our are area will be found in any local bookshop or Tourist Information Centre.

We hope to build up a database of walks we have used in recent programmes and to post them here on our website. They will be in the form of downloadable files from GPS recorded routes listed by place and distance.

To access them you will need to have a copy of the relevant TRACKLOG map. This commercial software can be ordered from their website

Long Distance Walks passing through Somerset
On Ordance Survey maps paths marked with green diamonds are "recreational paths". They vary considerably in length but most require several days to walk.There is usually at least one book or pamphlet describing each route in detail and these can be bought at local Tourist Information Centres and bookshops.In addition there are websites containing information about most of them. Follows the River Chew to the River Yeo
Coleridge Way 36 miles Porlock to Nether Stowey
Passes through landscape of Quantocks, Brendon Hills and Exmoor that inspired Coleridge.

Links the Cotswold Way with the Mendip Way

Sections 12 to 14 go through Somerset e.g one section goes from Alfred's Tower it goes west through Glastonbury on its way to Exmoor.

miles		 French Weir in Taunton to Starcross on the Exe Estuary
Through the towns of Wellington, Tiverton and Exeter via the river Tone, the Great Western canal, the Exe Valley way and the Exeter Ship canal
  Colliers Way 17 miles Dundas Aquaduct to Frome
A Sustrans Cycle Route (24) via Radstock which mainly follows old railway routes - with short sections of quiet lanes. Very easy!
  West Somerset Coastal Path 25 miles Bridgwater to Minehead
Effectively extends the SWCP from Minehead to Bridgwater where it Joins the Parrett Way at Steart Opened 2006
  Samaritans Way South West 103 miles Bristol (Clifton) to Lynton
From the Avon Gorge, the walk takes in the Chew Valley, the Mendip, Polden, Quantock and Brendon Hills, the Somerset Levels and Exmoor.
