Why not join the area holiday next year for a FOUR day THREE night walking weekend and get to know members from other Somerset area groups?
The group will be based at the Broadway Park Hotel in Sandown on the east coast of the Isle of Wight (Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October). This Shearings Hotel is well used to catering for groups. The total cost (which includes the cost of the ferry) is only £120 for three nights dinner, bed and breakfast. All rooms are en suite and a mixture of doubles and twins (plus a very limited number of singles) has been booked. Further details of the hotel given opposite and within the Shearings website.
The four days of walking on the Isle of Wight will be structured to suit a range of walking abilities. Full details of the walks as they evolve will be posted on this website page and all participants will be sent final details by the end of July 2008, but in outline the programme will be:

Friday: Moderate 5 or 6 mile walk starting at 1.30 pm from near the ferry terminal at Fishbourne (gives time to drive to Portsmouth for a noon ferry)
Sunday: Choice of a 6-8 mile walk or a more strenuous 10-12 mile route
Monday: Moderate 5 or 6 mile walk starting at 10.00 a.m from the hotel in Sandown (after which an afternoon ferry back to Portsmouth)

The Broadway Park Hotel, once the magnificent mansion house of a Victorian entrepreneur, has great character and much architectural interest. The hotel is set in its own grounds with adjacent parks and the railway station only 5 mins walk away. It's a short pleasant stroll to the seafront and the centre of Sandown. Sandown is everything a holiday resort should be, with an enviable position on the wide sweep of Sandown Bay and a magnificent sandy beach.

The hotel has a large car park.
