WALKS in OCTOBER 2008

Sunday 5th October.

Special Event:  Joint Woodspring and Clevedon Ramblers Coach Trip to Totnes.  There will be two walks. One 6 mile linear walk East Cornworthy to Dartmouth and along the Dart Valley trail. Easy to moderate.  One 12 miles linear walk Totnes to Dartmouth visiting many villages along the Dart Valley.  Possible pub stop for lunch. Moderate to hard.

Alternatively you may wish to come along and spend the day in Dartmouth.      Price of coach trip will be £10 per person.

Meet:  The coach will pick up at Homebase bus stop at 08:00 and Clevedon at 08:15.  Return approximately 7pm

Details of drop off and pick up points at Totnes and Dartmouth will be given on the way to Totnes.

Sunday 12th October            Moderate             12 ½ miles       7 hours

The Somerset Coal Canal (part 2).This walk follows a fascinating section of the coal canal from Combe Hay to Midford. Additional walking to Limpley Stoke, Tucking Mill and Combe Down. A couple of steep hills towards the end. There is a choice of 2 pubs or park for lunch at Hinton Charterhouse.

Meet: 09:30 Southstoke, South of Combe Down. Right at the ‘Cross Keys’ on the B3110 road to Midford.  Grid ref ST 747613. Park near white railings around the park.

Wednesday 15th  October         Easy/moderate.      5-6 miles.      3-4 hours

Mid Week Walk:  Winscombe and surrounding hills. An easy pace; please bring a picnic lunch.  Dogs allowed under control.
Meet:  11:30 Car park behind the Woodborough Inn, Winscombe.

Sunday 19th October.           Easy                     9 miles            

Combwich – Ashford Reservoir.  A gently undulating walk from Combwich Wharf and around Ashford Reservoir. Coffee and lunch stops.

No dogs allowed.

Meet: 10:00 at the car park on northern side of Combwich Wharf. From Cannington take the RH turning to Combwich and Stockland Bristol.  After approx. 1.75 miles turn right into Combwich and continue through the village until you reach a sharp bend to the left but go straight on here to the Wharf. ¼ mile. Limited parking.  Explorer 140.  Grid ref:  260423,

Around Barrow Gurney.

Meet: 10:00 Old magistrates Court. Turn off A370 for Long Ashton and, at 2nd mini roundabout, turn sharp left and park near the old Magistrates Court. Grid ref: ST 520696.  Picnic lunch.

Alternative walk:  Sandford to Dolebury Warren. A gentle walk from Sandford to Star, Rowberrow and Dolebury Warren.

Dogs allowed under control.
