Sunday 4th May.                    Easy                     5 miles                 

Short First:  Flax Bourton-outskirts of Tyntesfield-Truckle Wood-Backwell Bow-Flax Bourton.  Walking along a new cycle path, and appreciate views of Tyntesfield.  A delightful walk through established woodland.  A gentle climb through Truckle Wood.  An easy pace is planned throughout with coffee stops, lunch break and plenty of scope for further walking in the afternoon. No dogs allowed.

Samaritan’s Way 2nd leg – Compton Martin to Glastonbury via Mendips and Somerset Levels

This is one of the longer legs of the complete walk so let’s hope for good weather over the Mendips and dry underfoot across the Levels. Transport is very limited so please let the walk leader know you will be walking. Possible pub stop for lunch depending on speed of walk and weather.

Sandford evening walks: This is the first of the season.

A pleasant and friendly walk around the Sandford, Winscombe and Churchill countryside on alternate Wednesday evenings through the Summer.  Finish before dark, with a refreshing drink and a supper snack

at the Railway Inn, if you wish.

Ring O’ Bells, Compton Martin to Ring O’ Bells, Hinton Blewitt.

This is the 6th and final leg of the Butcombe Brewery walk. Via Prospect Stile, steep views, on to the King’s Arms (Litton) for lunch then up over

the Mendip Plateau to the Castle of Comfort and back down the hill

through East Harptree woods.

Dogs allowed under control.

Blagdon, Ubley, Burrington Ham, Rickford  Fields and Common land with stunning views from Blagdon and Rickford.  One fairly long climb from Ubley before lunch.  Dogs allowed under control.

Evening walk at Worlebury: An evening walk finishing with a Barbecue at Worlebury Golf Club. This will take place irrespective of the weather as the food will be cooked under cover and we will eat inside. Walk to Penn Hill, Mendips 2nd highest point (steep climb through the Gorge).  No dogs allowed.

Sunday 25th May. Easy and Moderate.  6½ and 12½ miles    3½ and 7 hrs

The Somerset Coal Canal Part 1.

A combined short and long walk for all to participate.  Also the first of a 2 part walk along the route of the Somerset Coal Canal, discovering the relics of a once bustling industry.  Through fields and meadows and along country lanes with a couple of very easy climbs for the short walk.  The longer walk contains more hill walking.  Pub stops on both walks.  Another Coal Canal walk will be in the next programme.

Meet:  09:30 Paulton Car Park  (free parking).  From A368, right onto A37. Left at traffic lights onto A39.  Follow signs to Paulton. Go right onto the B3355 into Paulton then pass the pub on your left.  Car park is down on the right.      Explorer 142 Grid Ref: ST652567

Explore Cadbury Hill Fort, renovated dewpond and Kings Wood.
