Sunday 3rd January 2010.     Easy with low or short hills.         4 ½ miles

Special Event: and Short First: -Morning walk for the ‘Festival of Winter Walks’-Sand Bay and Middle Hope.  Familiar terrain but could be a lovely crisp January morning walk.  If you have friends or family still with you after New Year, bring them along.  Your reward, apart from the views and fresh air, will be a ‘Nature Valley snack bar’ from Ramblers.  Walking along the coast, back through fields and along the beach.  Coffee stop at Woodspring Priory and back for lunchtime.  Dogs not allowed.

Sunday 3rd January.              Moderate                                     8 miles

Alternative walk:-Fishponds–A Frome Valley Walk. Picnic lunch. Dogs allowed under control.

Meet:-10:00 am. Fishponds . On entering Fishponds look for the betting shop, William Hill, on the left. Turn sharp left and follow the road down to Oldbury Court car park.   Explorer 142.  Grid Ref. ST634 765. Post code BS26 2JN.

Mid Week Walks:-Cheddar. A circuit of the Gorge attempting to lead you on different paths to circuit the Gorge

Picnic lunch.  No Dogs allowed.

Meet:-10:00 am. Penn Road, Cheddar.  At the market cross in Cheddar turn left into Union street then right into Redcliffe Street.  Penn Road is the 2nd right.  Please park sensitively.  Explorer 153.  Grid Ref. 461 531.

Sunday 10th January. Moderately easy walk with 2 hills    9 miles     5 hrs

Special Event:-2010 is Ramblers 75th Anniversary.  South West Area groups have been asked to each do an historical walk.  This will be OUR contribution.  Do come and join us on this walk to celebrate rambling.

Glastonbury.  One of our most historic sites in the county.  A scenic walk taking in Glastonbury Tor and Stone Down Hill.  See the famous Tor and surrounding areas from a different perspective.

Meet:-10.00 am. At the Market Cross in town centre, having parked in a suitable place or any of the car parks in Glastonbury.  Picnic lunch.  Dogs allowed under control.  Explorer 141 Grid Ref. ST 499 389.

Sunday 17th January. Easy walking with low or short hills 9 miles     5 hrs

Wick and Hinton.  An interesting walk with a couple of easy climbs.  Along a river bank and field paths visiting the villages of Doynton and Hinton.  A good view of Dyrham house and a dramatic encounter with a working quarry.  Picnic lunch.  Dogs allowed under control.

Meet:-10:00 am. Dyrham village hall..  From A46 South of M4 turn right at sign for Dyrham/Doynton.  Continue down winding lane to T-junction then turn right towards Hinton and Pucklechurch. (signposted).  Village hall ½ mile on left. Explorer 155.  Grid Ref. ST 733 762.

Mid Week Walks:-Winscombe and surrounding hills.  An easy pace; please bring a picnic lunch.

Social Event:-Roy’s Quiz Evening at the Railway Inn, Sandford.

Optional supper available from 7 p.m.  Quiz starts at 8 p.m. Everyone welcome for an evening of fun with our Quiz Master.  50p quiz entry fee, payable on the evening.

Sunday 24th January.            Moderate hilly walk       12 miles      5-6 hours

Cheddar Gorge, Charterhouse and Black Down.-A walk round some of the old Mendip favourites.  Dogs not allowed.

Sunday 31st January. Easy walking with low or short hills 10 miles   5½ hrs

Biddisham, Badgeworth, Brinscombe via Ashton Windmill.-A gentle walk for a winter’s day.  A few tricky stiles and a couple of gates to climb.  Footpath tracks and quiet lanes with views of well known landmarks from a perspective you may not have seen before.  Dogs not allowed.

Meet:-09:30 am. In lay by next to the new Moon pub (now shut) on the A38 at Biddisham.
