Sunday 1st February.        Moderate with 1 or 2 steep hills.  5 miles  4 hrs

Short First:  Cheddar Gorge – Through Velvet Bottom, Black Rock and Cheddar Gorge.  Plenty of time to stop and admire the view. Dogs allowed under control.

Meet:  10.30 a.m.  Charterhouse Visitor Centre car park.

Sunday 1st February         Moderate              11 ½ miles      

Alternative walk:  Croscombe – Wells – Pen Hill..  A long slow climb up but with superb views weather permitting.  Picnic lunch No Dogs.

Meet:  09:30 Near Croscombe village hall. Route:  From Wells turn left on entrance to Croscombe (very narrow, signed village hall).

Sunday 8th February    Easy walking with low or short hills   8 ¾ miles.       

Kingscote & Nailsworth  An attractive walk of undulating hills and meadows, visiting the wool town of Nailsworth. Possible pub stop.  No dogs.

Meet:  10:00 Kingscote. A46 North from M4 Jct. 18. left onto A4135 then right at the Huntershall Inn, signed to Kingscote. In the village go right where there is restricted roadside parking near the Church.

Sunday 15th February       Hard                     15 miles      7 hours

Stourhead.  From King Alfred’s Tower down through Forest of Zeals and Meare.  Up onto White Sheet Hill.  Return via Stourhead, Six Wells bottom and St. Peter’s Pump. Picnic and Pub for lunch.

Meet:  10.00 a.m. At the car park on the minor road ½ mile east of King Alfred’s Tower.

Wednesday 18th February. Easy to moderate. 5-6 miles. 3 to 4 hours

Mid Week Walks:  Winscombe and surrounding hills. An easy pace; please bring a picnic lunch.  Dogs allowed under control.

Social Event: Bowling and optional Fish and Chip Supper.

Sherston – Westonbirt Arboretum.  General level walking across fields, lanes and parkland.  With time in the Arboretum for the Spring flowers.

Short First: -Bleadon-Circular walk including the village of Bleadon and part of the west Mendip Way.

Sunday 7th February. Easy walking with low or short hills 12 miles   6 hours.

Alternative walk:-The Three Sodburys.. Taking in Chipping Sodbury, Little Sodbury and Old Sodbury.  Through woods, across fields and along the Frome Valley Walkway.  Fairly level walk with a couple of short hills.  Excellent views on a clear day.  Picnic lunch at Upton Cricket club or pub round the corner.  Dogs allowed under control.

Saturday 13th February   Somerset Area AGM

At Spaxton Village Hall, High Street, Spaxton, near Bridgwater TA5 1BS. Explorer 140. Grid reference ST 224 366.

10:00 am morning walk of 4 to 5 miles.  Meeting convenes at 2pm

Sunday 14th February.      Easy walking with low or short hills      5 miles.

East Harptree Woods-Snowdrop Walk.-A walk through the woods, passing the disused mine shafts and old Chimney. Visiting Manor Farm with, hopefully, a view of the snowdrops.  Dogs allowed under control.

Sunday 21st February.  Easy walking with low or short hills 8 miles

Bristol-Suspension Bridge, Nightingale Valley, Harbourside and Clifton.  An interesting walk around Bristol; with lovely views of the River Avon from the bridge and over the city from Brandon hill.  Plus a look round some of the less well known parts.  Steepish stoney downward path at beginning in Nightingale Valley and some slopes and steps in Clifton after lunch but level walking other than that.

Meet:-10:00 a.m. At the junction of Clifton Down and Percival Road.  Turn up Bridge Valley Road from the Portway.  Sharp turn  right on mini-roundabout at the top, into Clifton Down.  Percival Road 2nd turning on the left.  Roadside parking.  Dogs not allowed. Explorer 155  Grid Ref. ST 566 735.

Sunday 28th February.           Moderate hilly walk                9 miles

A walk of 4 Ways.  Fyne Court for the snowdrops, then along Quantock Greenway, West Dean Way, Macmillan Way through Paradise to Cothelstone Hill; returning via Samaritans Way. Picnic lunch.

Dogs allowed under control  But not in Fyne Court.
