WALKS in OCTOBER 2009

Sunday 4th October    moderate          5 ½ miles         3½ hours.

Short First:- Walton-in Gordano circular walk.  Mostly level but with a steep climb near the beginning.  A pleasant walk through open fields with views across Gordano Valley Nature Reserve, including a golf course and coastal path and passing Walton Castle

Meet:-10:30 Bay Road, Clevedon.  Follow the B3124 from Clevedon or Portishead, following signs to Clevedon golf course. Opposite St. Mary’s Church there are parking bays in Bay Road.  Grid Ref:  ST400713

Sunday 4th October                Moderate              10½ miles        5 ½ hours

Alternative walk:- Bicknoller – Monksilver - Stogumber. Bridging the gap between the Quantocks and the Brendon Hills, to include the second section of The Coleridge Way.

Sunday 11th October.   Easy walking with low or short hills.     8.2miles.  

Coxley Wick, Fenny Castle and Yarley Hill. 

Meet:- 10;00  Wookey Village.  Please park sensitively around the village and meet at the Church near the Cemetery. Explorer 141 Grid Ref: 518458  No dogs allowed.

Sunday 11th October.   Moderate hilly.              10½ miles.

Alternative walk:- Rodney Stoke, Draycott and Cheddar. Three long ascents accessing wide ranging Mendip views.

Meet:- 10:00 Rodney Stoke Church. A371 Wells road through Cheddar & Draycott.  After Rodney Stoke turn sharp right on corner sign posted Wedmore. No dogs allowed.  Explorer 141 Grid Ref: 482499

Wednesday 14th October

Social Event:- Roy’s Quiz Evening at the Railway Inn, Sandford – Optional supper available from 7 p.m.  Quiz starts at 8 p.m. Everyone welcome for an evening of fun with our Quiz Master.  50p quiz entry fee, payable on the evening.

Sunday 18th October.      Moderately hilly walk      11.3 miles     6 to 7 hours

Exmoor.  Woodland, Moorland and Seashore.

Meet:- 09:30 Porlock Church limited street parking or village car park £3.50 all day. Car park is near the Fire Station 300 yds. from start of walk.  All other street parking and short stay car parking limited to 2 hours. No dogs allowed.

Wednesday 21st  October      Easy/moderate.              5-6 miles.    3-4 hours

Mid Week Walk:- Winscombe and surrounding hills. An easy pace; please bring a picnic lunch.  Dogs allowed under control.
Meet:- 11:30 Car park behind the Woodborough Inn, Winscombe.

Sunday 25th October    Easy over fairly level ground  9½ miles     4½ hours

Tetbury, Westonbirt and Shipton Moyne.

A lovely Autumn walk, hoping to still enjoy the changing colours of the many magnificent trees in the Arboretum and several large Gloucestershire country estates, including the edge of Prince Charles’ estate at Highgrove.  Quite a few stiles! Picnic lunch.  No dogs allowed.

Meet:-10:00 In the car park near the Tourist Information Centre.  Entering Tetbury on A433 the TIC is on this road on the left.  Turn immediately left into Old Brewery Lane and then into the car park.  No charge on Sundays. Explorer 168 Grid ref: 888928.
