WALKS in DECEMBER 2009

Wednesday 2nd December.                   Moderate.  Distance and time is weather dependent.

Mid Week Walks:-Pensford.

Meet:-10:00 am. Pensford Memorial Hall:  Picnic. Dogs not allowed.     Explorer 155 Grid Ref. 620 639.  Route: A368, left to A37 to Pensford, turn right opposite War Memorial, signed Publow and Woollard. Directly after, bear left at triangle, continue 200 yds to hall car park on left.

Sunday 6th December.                                                         Easy walking with low or short hills        6 miles 3½ hours.

Short First:-Chewton Mendip, Litton and reservoir, Greendown

Varied walk including a pleasant stretch around the reservoir and some lovely views.  Likely to be some muddy areas! 

A few ups and downs but all will be taken at an easy pace.  Dogs not allowed.

Meet:-10.00.a.m.  Car park alongside Chewton Mendip Church. Approaching village on B3114 turn right on to A39 and take right turn (Church Lane) after the Waldegrave Arms.  Park in larger car park.

Sunday 6th December.                                                      Easy walking with low or short hills 10 miles 5½-6 hours.

Alternative walk:-Creech St Michael – North Curry – Knapp – Ham.

A walk along the Bridgwater and Taunton canal, then across open fields  following the River Tone.

Then over a small hill to North Curry for lunch. Return via lanes, fields and bridleways, passing through hamlets of Knapp and Ham. Could be muddy if wet.

Dogs not allowed.

Meet:-10:00 am Creech St. Michael canal side car park. M5 to Jct.25– turn left off A358 to Creech St. Michael. Once over narrow bridge turn right then sharp left following canal boat sign into car park at end of lane.

Sunday 13th December.                                                         Easy walking over fairly level ground   10 miles.          5 hours

Covering parts of the River Parrett trail, Bridgewater and Taunton canal and Macmillan Way west.  An easy flat walk along river and canal, across meadows and along quiet country lanes. A gentle pace with just one stile. Picnic lunch on route with a pub at the end of the walk. Dogs allowed under control.

Meet:-10:00 am Huntsworth, at the Boat and Anchor pub. M5 to Jct. 24. Turn left and follow sign to the pub. You can see the pub just before you come off the M5.  Explorer 140.  Grid Ref: ST313 349. Post code TA7 0AQ

Wednesday 16th December.   Easy/moderate.    5-6 miles.    3-4 hours

Mid Week Walks:-Winscombe and surrounding hills. An easy pace; please bring a picnic lunch.

Special Event:-Priddy Walk. Our traditional pre-Christmas walk, which is rounded off at a pub for lunch and/or drink.

Sunday 27th December.          Easy to moderate.     6 miles        3–4 hours

Special Event:-Annual Mince Pie Ramble. To walk off any Christmas excess, only to put it on again with a seasonal tipple and mince pies. Walk will be shorter if weather is inclement. Dogs allowed under control.

Meet:-10:00 am. Winscombe public car park behind the Woodborough Inn.
