WALKS in JULY2007

Sunday 1st July.             Easy                   7 miles                            3½ hours

Short First :- Highbridge, Estuaries of Rivers Brue and Parrett, West Huntspill and Alstone – A flat walk along the banks of the rivers Parrett and Brue with plenty of birdlife.  Turning inland and having a lunch stop at West Huntspill.  Continue to Alstone. No dogs allowed

Meet:  10.00 Moorland Road, Highbridge  (Highbridge – Burnham Road end of Moorland Road.

Sunday 8th July        Moderate    9½ miles   6 hours

Exmoor- Tarr Steps.  By popular demand a repeat of last Summer’s walk to Tarr Steps and the Punchbowl. Lovely varied walk of woodland, river and moorland. Coffee stop, lunch at Tarr Steps with Pub/picnic. Tea at Winsford with homemade cakes at the well known tea room.

Wednesday 11th July. Easy                        4 miles                      2 hours

Evening walk - Axbridge. A short walk round the Reservoir and surrounding countryside.  Back to the Lamb for a drink and something to eat if you wish.

Meet:  6:45 pm Axbridge square.

Sunday 15th July      Hard          13 miles    7 hours

Black Mountains – Through the Olchon Valley, over the Offa’s Dyke ridge and into the Vale of  Ewyas, to take the ridge up onto Lord Herfords Knob.  Through to Gospel Pass, onto Hay Bluff and down over Black Hill.

Dogs allowed under control.

Meet: 10:00 at the car park below Black Hill.

Sunday 22nd July     Moderate    9 to 10 miles              5 hours.

Bradford-on-Avon – Delightful walk along the river bank, fields and woods, Avoncliffe, Freshford, Iford and Westwood; returning in time for afternoon tea in Bradford-on-Avon.  Picnic lunch.  Undulating but no steep climbs. Dogs allowed under control.

Meet:  10:00 Station car park Bradford-on-Avon (main, long term car park). Please note parking is £3.60 per day so car sharing is recommended.

Evening walk – Uphill. Across the sands, round the reserve and up to the windmill and Church. Supper snack at the Ship Inn at the end of the walk, if you wish.

Sunday 29th July      Moderate    10 miles                   

Wimbleball Lake – Haddon Hill – Hartford Dam.  A walk around Exmoor’s most beautiful lake. 

Meet: 10:00 at ‘The Cowlings, The main car park. (ignore all others)  From A358 (Taunton) left onto Bishops Lydeard, fork left after Ralegh’s Cross, onto B3190.  After just over 1 mile fork right.  After Bessom Bridge and Woolcott’s turn left. Grid Ref: 967308
