For your own comfort and safety
Details of any special events which are taking place will be found on the News and Events page.   Ø  wear good supportive walking boots/shoes;
We meet at the Scout Hut car park, in Great Western Road, opposite Morrisons in Clevedon, unless there is a note in the programme to the contrary. Ø  carry or wear adequate weatherproof clothing;
If it is more convenient for you to go direct to the walk’s start, rather than to the meeting place at SHCP, phone or send an e-mail and we will give you details. Ø  carry your own first aid kit – a list of suggested contents can be obtained from our secretary;
It is helpful if you arrive about 10 minutes before the start time so that any car sharing can be organized. Ø  carry a drink, even when a pub meal or a picnic is planned for the walk;
Car sharing is arranged as much as possible and those being given a lift are asked to make a donation of 5p per* mile to the driver, to help with expenses.  Any ‘bridge’ or ‘parking’ fees are also shared by those in the car.  *(the right is reserved to adjust this if the price of petrol continues to rise) Ø  carry a whistle, in case you ever need to attract attention

Walk Etiquette
Consideration
At the start of the walk, the Leader will tell the group who has been appointed as ‘back marker’ and   To help us maintain good relationships with farmers, landowners and publicans, please:
(i)   the group will not move off, after any stop, until the back marker has told the leader that it is suitable to do so Ø  leave all gates as you found them – open or shut;
(ii)  the leader and the back marker should always be within visual range of each other Ø  keep to footpaths – single file in crops, to minimize damage;
(iii) anyone wishing to make a stop must tell either the leader or the back marker Ø  climb gates at the hinge end, one at a time;
(iv) if you become separated from the group, stay where you are until someone returns from the group to collect you Ø  remove muddy boots before going into a pub;
(v) make frequent checks that you can still see the other walkers, both in front of you and behind you.  Ø  don’t eat sandwiches in a pub garden, unless it has been arranged by the leader;
  Ø  where walks with dogs are included in the programme the dogs must be under close control at all times – on leads in the vicinity of farm animals
